GAIL's, Southwark Fire Station

For GAIL's most sustainable bakery to date, we crafted a centrepiece table entirely from a single plank of rare Black Poplar that once grew just 800 metres away from its new home.

We were delighted to collaborate with our longtime friends at GAIL's on their Southwark location. Their most sustainable bakery yet, every detail of the interior - once the headquarters of the London Fire Brigade - was carefully considered to create a model of environmental responsibility

Treecycled timber

Designed as a legacy piece for Gail's, this table is a durable future heirloom, built with re-use in mind, truly made to last.

We crafted the the central communal table entirely from a single plank of rare Treecycled Black Poplar that once grew just 800 metres away on the nearby Old Kent Road.

Provenance

The GPS coordinates - the signature Goldfinger touch - stamped onto the tabletop mark the exact spot where that tree once stood, connecting customers to the timber's provenance and unique history.

Natural beauty

The table’s striking surface showcases the natural burls, knots and shimmers of the Black Poplar timber, a true testament to the individuality found in nature.

The waney edge further celebrates the tree's raw, one-of-a-kind beauty.

When designing this bakery, we set out to minimise waste, regenerate resources, and create a meaningful impact for both people and planet. Our longstanding collaboration with Goldfinger exemplifies this vision, building a future where craftsmanship, community, and care for the environment thrive in harmony.
